Altus Underwriting Limited (“Altus”, “we” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy and we provide this Privacy Statement to inform you about the type of information we collect from you online and how we use, share, and protect that information.  This Privacy Statement applies to personal data and other information we collect from or about visitors to, or users of, our websites.  This Privacy Statement does not apply to any other products or services or to information collected in any other way or for any other purpose.


Altus is a commercial specialty (re)insurer and is committed to ensuring that any personal data it holds is processed fairly, held securely and destroyed once there ceases to be a legitimate business purpose to retain it. All personal data shall be processed and stored in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”).

Insurance and reinsurance can involve the use and disclosure of your personal data by various insurance market participants such as intermediaries, insurers and reinsurers. The London Insurance Market Core Uses Information Notice ( sets out those core areas covering personal data uses and disclosures. Our core uses and disclosures are consistent with the London Market Core Uses Information Notice. We recommend you review this notice.

There maybe (re)insurance policies where we request and hold personal data in the course of quoting and administrating contracts. Additionally, there may be instances where personal data may be used to comply with legal and/or regulatory requirements or to protect Altus’s legal position in the event of legal proceedings.

The lawful basis under GDPR used by Altus to process personal data are:

  • in the course of administering (re)insurance contracts: and/or
  • where specific consent has been provided to such processing. 

Various forms on our site invite you to submit your contact details and other personal data about yourself.  We also may collect information that is related to you but that does not personally identify you, such as your computer’s operating system, browser, and information regarding your use of and activities on our websites or applications. Under GDPR you have the following rights in relation to personal data that Altus holds:

  • The right to be informed – you are entitled to concise and transparent information about what information we hold about you, why we use it, who else we may share the information with and why and the period for which the personal data is stored.
  • The right to request details of the personal data which we hold about you.
  • The right to rectification – this includes the correction of incorrect personal data.
  • The right of erasure – where personal data is no longer needed for the purposes for which it was collected and used and/or if you object to or withdraw your consent to the processing of personal data and there is no legitimate reason for Altus to keep the information.
  • The right to restrict processing activities – if the accuracy of your personal data is challenged and/or if Altus no longer need the personal data for the activity it was collected for.
  • The right to object to personal data being processed. 


We may use personal data or other information we collect from or about you to provide the information, products or services you request or which we think may be of interest to you, to communicate with you, to improve our websites, applications, services, and products, including by developing data analytics and reports about your and others’ use of them, to fulfill any other purpose for which you provide the information; and as otherwise required or permitted by law.


We do not sell or rent your personal data or other information.  We may share your information with our affiliates and subsidiaries and with any third parties who provide services on our behalf.  Such third parties may be located around the world, including in countries that require a different level of data protection than the European Union.  Third-party service providers receiving personal data are expected to maintain privacy and security protections that are consistent with Altus’s privacy and security policies. These companies are authorised to use your personal information only for the purposes for which it was originally intended or as required or permitted by law. However, unless otherwise dictated by law or agreement, Altus is not responsible for any improper use by such parties.

We also reserve the right to disclose your personal data or other information as required by law or when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, request from a regulator or any other legal process served on us.


When you visit our website our server will automatically record your IP address together with the date, time and duration of your visit. This information does not identify you as an individual, but identifies the computer or other device you use to access the website. We do not monitor this information.

During the course of your visit to our website, we may also automatically download short text files called “cookies” to your computer. We do not use cookies to identify you, just to improve your experience of the site.
